How the draw works
The generator shuffles your list and assigns each person exactly one recipient, then checks the result against two rules: nobody draws themselves, and nobody draws a name you excluded. If a shuffle breaks either rule, it reshuffles until it finds a valid set \u2014 so you never get the awkward "we have to redo it" moment that comes with paper slips.
Exclusions are what make a draw feel fair in a real group. Couples who already buy for each other, siblings who swapped last year, or two teammates who sit next to each other can all be blocked in a click. Add exclusions before you draw; the matches are generated in one pass.
Each participant can reveal only their own match while the device is passed around, or the organizer can copy each assignment into a private message. No accounts, no email required, and nothing to install.

Picking a budget the group will follow
State one number, not a range. A $20 cap is the most common for office exchanges because it buys one good small thing; $25 to $30 suits friend groups who see each other year-round; $10 to $15 works for large groups where the point is the reveal. Keep shipping outside the cap — otherwise the person mailing across the country sends a smaller gift than everyone else.

Running it with a remote or hybrid group
- Draw names at least three weeks out so mailed gifts arrive before the reveal call.
- Ask for shipping addresses through the organizer, not the group chat.
- Collect a two-line wish list from each person; it removes almost every bad guess.
- Allow digital gifts explicitly, or someone will feel stuck buying an object to mail.
- Set a reveal date on the calendar and say when gifts should be opened.
